Ratnagiri Lighthouse is situated in the Ratnagiri Fort, 11 km from Ratnagiri. Ratnagiri Fort, also known as Ratnadurg Fort, was built during the Bahamani rule. The fort had changed a lot of hands and was rebuilt on various occasions, but is now in ruins. Ratnagiri Lighthouse stands on the southern bastion known as Siddha Buruj of this horse shoe shaped fort. A small passage by the side of fort wall leads to this lighthouse. The lighthouse was built to guide ships traveling in the Arabian Sea as well as to keep vigil. One can also visit the Bhagawati temple that is located inside the fort. Easily accessible, the lighthouse commands a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea as well as the Ratnagiri City
